foiled stationery

Photoshoot at Lapstone Barn

We have recently been lucky enough to be apart of a fantastic styled shoot at the fabulous venue,
Lapstone Barn, which is located in the heart of the Cotswolds.

The stationery we created for the shoot was solely inspired by the fabulous mood board created by Jane from Tulle & Blue. The muted blue tones mixed with the greys, burnt gold and greens were the focus for me. I wanted to design something soft, whimsical and beautiful to enhance the overall elegant and mystical tone of the shoot. Everything has been hand printed and hand made with love and also hand painted – using a watercolour wash to create the backdrop to all artworks. Everything we designed is in keeping with all the other pieces giving a natural flow; stationery items include, a pocket-fold invitation with matte gold foiling, place name tags, gold foiled menu cards, table numbers, seating plan cards which hang from the foliage hoop and a welcome sign.

We absolutely loved being involved in this shoot and seeing everything come together; it’s so important
that all elements of your Big Day matches and compliments each other and this just highlights that. Have a look at just a few of the amazing photographs taken by Joanna Briggs below… All suppliers can be found below the images.

Christmas Wedding Stationery 🎅🏼❤️

What with the lead up to Christmas and with the ‘wrapping’ up of the year, it seemed very apt to end my stream of blog posts on a recent winter/ Christmas inspired stationery suite.

It was an absolute delight to work on this suite from the very beginning, starting with their Save the Dates. We then worked on their invitations, in which we used a burgundy foil for their names to create that luxurious feel to them. As you will see, their theme was very much focused around the red winter berries that you find at this time of the year. These hand painted watercolour berries feature throughout all the stationery and makes everything all lovely, consistent and in keeping with each other. Stationery items included: Save the Dates, Invitations, Table Plan, Table numbers and place names. I cannot wait to see the photos from the Big Day itself- I bet everything looked just so magical and beautiful.

A huge congratulations to Emily on Josh on their marriage, wishing you all the very best for the future.

If it’s that time for you to start thinking about your wedding stationery, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with your ideas and wishes, I’d absolutely love to hear from you. I will be taking little break from Friday 21st December until Wednesday 2nd January and I will be answering all emails upon my return.

Merry Christmas everyone and a very Happy New Year xx

Bespoke Invitation Design for Lapstone Barn 🌿

Lapstone Barn is definitely up there with one of my favourite wedding venues! If you are haven’t yet decided where to get married, I would highly recommend visiting this stunning Cotswold wonderland.

Having recently just had the pleasure of exhibiting at their latest Wedding Fair on Sunday, I felt it was only appropriate to create a new, exciting, bespoke invitation design especially for couples getting married at this exquisite venue.

When it comes to your wedding invitations, it’s very important to reflect the overall theme and vibe of what you want your Big Day to be. After all, receiving your invitations is the very first insight into your wedding that your guests will get… Make sure its a good one!

With this in mind, I wanted to create an invitation for the barn that is elegant, easily adaptable (in terms of the colours) and truly unique to couples getting married there. I have hand drawn the barn which features at the top of the invitation and printed it in rose gold. You can easily change this to suit you and your theme of your Big Day- so silver, gold, copper, etc. I have hand painted a watercolour wash of green which is behind the names- again this is easily adaptable or even erasable if you’d prefer. I chose to go with this colour with the watercolour and the pocketfold envelope to reflect the vast, green landscape that surrounds the Barn.

For more details, please do get in touch, I’d love to hear more about your wedding.

Real Wedding at Cripps Barn 🌿

I truly love nothing more than receiving wedding photos from the Big Day itself… It puts everything into perspective and a vision become reality. It’s amazing to see all the stationery I produce in my little studio come together with all the other wonderful things on the day, such as the flowers, foliage, overall table layout and everything.

This post is dedicated to the awesome couple Claire & Josh who travelled all the way from sunny Sydney, Australia to get married in the beautiful Cotswold venue, Cripps Barn.

They came to me after they had done their invitations and wanted something really special and personalised to them for the wedding day. They had two very prominent themes that they wanted enhancing within their stationery; their love of craft beer & beautiful rustic antlers. As you will see in the photographs below, we incorporated both of these things very nicely into their stationery, with flashes of copper, foliage, watercolour & brown kraft goodness. I had so much fun creating everything, including: personalised place names, personalised belly bands that wrapped around the napkins, an Order of the Day sign, Table Plan Cards, Table Name Cards, menus and Order of Service booklets. Thanks for having all the faith and giving me the creative freedom to produce some really exciting stuff! Congratulations to Claire & Josh, it was an absolute pleasure!

Kew Garden Wedding Invitations 🌿💍

I recently had the pleasure of designing and creating some bespoke invitations for a couple getting married at the stunning Kew Gardens. My clients wanted their invitations to reflect the elegance, sophistication and wanders of this incredible venue. Their theme was blush pink, ivory and rose gold.

There were quite a few stages to this design process, all of which were very unique to the couple. As you will see in the pictures below, we created a monogram of their initials which was wax stamped in a rose gold, rich wax on luxury vellum belly bands. They decided to go for the pocketfold invitation; this is a classic style and is great for containing lots of information in a beautiful, succinct way. The couple were having their reception in the grand Orangery in Kew Gardens, so they wanted this to be a feature on the invitations. I hand drew this magnificent building in pencil, scanned it in at a high resolution, converted it into a plate for foiling and then hand printed it in the rose gold- as you will see at the top of the invitation. The couples names and all the titles are also printed in the rose gold foil. They were printed on a textured, ivory card which only enhances that elegant feel to them.

It’s so important to set the right tone with your wedding stationery, after all, it is the first
thing your guests will see. Please do get in touch if you want to create something unique
for your Big Day.

Rustic Elegant Wedding Inspiration 🌿

Rustic elegant is now a "thing" and it's definitely taking over the whole 'vintage, bunting, rustic' vibe. Think, lots of lights, candles, foliage, greenery, natural light and beautiful countryside; all make up for a beautiful, rustic yet elegant tone for your wedding.

For styling on the Big Day, there is so much inspiration on Pinterest and here are just a few from my board that I have pinned...

I have recently designed and created some bespoke Save the Date's for a couple who are getting married in their local church and having their reception at their parents country farm house in a stunning barn. Everything is so personal to them so it was important to set the right tone with their wedding stationery from the start. They wanted to allude to the countryside aesthetic without going down the brown kraft route. As you can see, I have hand painted the wheat in the background which is subtle yet still very visible. On top of this, I have gold foiled "Save the Date" with their details written below. We decided to go with these heritage green envelopes which also nods to the country styled wedding theme. It's this attention to detail that helps create the overall tone... I cannot wait to work on their wedding invitations now!

Please do get in touch if you'd like to create something unique for you and your wedding.

Aynhoe Park Wedding Invitations ✨

If you haven't been to Aynhoe Park, I would highly recommend visiting this amazing venue... Filled with the most incredible lavish taxidermy with giraffes hanging from the ceiling by balloons to polar bears being suited and booted in military gear- it's really very spectacular. And what a place to have your wedding day - it's just so different, unique and elegant.

So when I was approached by a couple who are getting married there to design their wedding invitations, I was naturally, very excited (as I am with any bespoke design) and wanted to create something to reflect the grandeur and opulence of this wonderland venue.

The tone of the wedding, for me, is always set with the venue choice. So I quickly had a good understanding of what the couple wanted and desired. And upon establishing their colour palette of navys, greys, taupes, blushes and golds, they gave me the complete freedom in designing their invitations to create something to emulate the stylish nature of Aynhoe Park.

The invitation was based around the first thing that I designed for them; their bespoke geometric monogram of the couple's initials. As you can see this heptagon runs throughout all the complimenting slips so everything has a consistency to it and it all ties together beautifully. Their main invitation is all hand printed in a matt gold foil on a heavy weight GF Smith card. And as you can see their monogram is a feature on the other slips, keeping that continuity and heightening that elegant feel; even their envelopes have been foiled, which makes such an impact when guests receive them through the post.

I had so so much fun designing, printing and creating these unique invitations and I just cannot wait to do the rest of their stationery!

Photoshoot at Upcote Barn 💍👰🏽

Last week, I had the pleasure of working on a wedding photoshoot at the beautiful venue of Upcote Barn with an amazing list of other local Cotswold suppliers (please find at the end of article). Luckily, we had beautiful weather and it was the perfect setting for what we wanted.
As you can see, the colour scheme that we all worked to was, burgundies, reds, whites and pops of yellows, greens and oranges. Because it was such a sunny, luscious day, this looks perfect for a summer wedding, but we were going for more of an Autumnal feel. All images are courtesy of the incredible Ben from Blooming Photography....

And here is the stationery that I designed specifically for the day... which will soon be available on the website as part of a new customisable range of luxe designs : The Foil Collection. The gold leaf illustration is the focal point of this design, reflective of foliage, elegance and decadence...

Save the Date 2019 Weddings 💍

At the moment here at Retro Press, I'm juggling lots of work, from on the day stationery items for couples getting married this summer, invitations for couples getting married from October onwards (so lots of Christmas invites in action) and Save the Date's for couples getting married in 2019.

Tips & Inside Knowledge

- With your Save the Date cards, I would recommend sending them out between 8-12 months before the Big Day itself. This gives your guests plenty of time to book the time off work and most importantly keep your date free!

- Don't give too much info away on your Save the Dates- leave the venue as a nice surprise for when they receive their invitations. Keep them simple... So all you need on them is: Your Names (obviously!), Date, Location (The Cotswolds for instance) and then "Formal invitation to follow" (or words to that affect)- so that they don't panic about not having all the details!

- If you're struggling to decide on what style you want your Save the Date's to be- in terms of colours, etc- I would say go for something more neutral. This way, you haven't restricted your options when it comes to your invitations.

- Which leads me nicely on to my next point... Do the Save the Dates have to match your invitations? In short, no! I mean, it's always nice if the theme of your wedding starts with your Save the Dates, but it's really not essential. As long as they are along the same tone and vibe, it's totally ok if you've had a change of heart when it comes to your invites... I would say that it's more important that your day stationery and invitations are in keeping (in terms of colours etc).

Styles

As with invitations, there are so many different styles of Save the Dates that you can go for. I have a few different ranges on my website, in which you can adapt to suit you. However, if non of them take your fancy, we can also go totally bespoke... Anything is possible!

LUXE Save the Dates

This is a collection designed for pure luxury. The watercolour wash in the background is adapted to your colour scheme- alternatively, you can have a 'clean' background. The Save the Date is foiled- which comes in a huge variety of colours, ranging from gold to hot pink (it doesn't have to be a metallic). They are A7 in size and come with matching luxury white envelopes.

Tag Style Save the Dates

There are x10 different designs in this tag style of Save the Dates. You can either add twine or ribbon to them to give them a slightly different look and feel. They are A7 in size, so small and cute! These are great, especially if you are not dead set on a theme yet. You can adapt the colour of the text to your preferred choice.

The Tailored Collection Save the Dates

These Save the Dates all have matching Invitation and Day stationery suites. So, from the start to finish, you can have the same design (also available with the tags and luxe range). These are postcard size (A6) and come with envelopes. With the option to upgrade to foiling if you wish. As with all my designs, nothing is restricted.

Bespoke Save the Date cards

And if all else fails... Go bespoke! Go for something totally unique and something that you need to get made especially for you in order to match up with your wedding dreams and ideas. These cards that you see below were blind debossed (so no ink) which creates a lovely texture and feel to them. Each and every one has been lovingly hand printed to create this simple yet so very effective finish.

Customisable Wedding Invitations; The Tailored Collection 💕

The Tailored Collection is a varying suite of invitations that I have designed in order to make life easy for you whilst at the same time, still being unique to you. At the moment, there are 5 very different designs, thus hopefully there is at least one that catches your eye.

I get asked lots of questions about The Tailored Collection, so I thought I would try and answer the most frequent ones in this blog post!

Think of these invitations as starting points. The colours, wording and paper stocks used are all changeable and this is how you make the design bespoke to you. This is a service in which I provide that is complimentary when ordering from this collection... If however, you wanted to add an element in, like a motif, a building, an illustration, etc, extra design charges are applicable (and it just depends upon what you want adding).

Other embellishments that you might want to add into your design / final invitations:

- Twine & tags
- Matching belly bands
- Foiling
- Matching envelope liners
- Bespoke stickers
- Bespoke Wax stamp
- Printed personalised names on your invitations

How to place an order:

This is dead easy but it's not computerised (which would take away from the personal service that I pride myself on). All you have to do is fill out a form on the Contact page and I will get back to you within 24 working hours. Once we have had a discussion about your invitations and you have sent me the wording that you require, I will create a digital proof and send it back to you for your approval. Once you are totally happy, payment is made and production begins.

The usual timescale:

If you're ordering in good time (not in a rush), I would say it takes about 2-3 weeks to turn your invitations around... If however, (which seems to happen a lot), you are ordering last minute, the quickest turn around time is 1 week (7 working days).

Matching On the Day Stationery:

Lots of couples want their day stationery to match their invitations... Personally, I think it's a nice touch and something that your guests will notice and appreciate. You've set the tone with your invitations so it makes sense to carry it through to on the Big Day too. All of the Tailored Collection designs come with matching day stationery items, but as these bits seem to leave my studio straight away so I don't have much in terms of samples, but I do have a few images so fear not! The stationery items for on the wedding day is endless and I do it all:

- Orders of Service booklets/ cards
- Place Names
- Table Plan
- Table Name/ Number cards
- Welcome sign / signage
- Labels for favours
- Menus for the tables

Sample Service:

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to see any invitation samples- I send these out free of charge... And I do think it's always worth doing so if you've got the time- just so you can see the paper stock, quality, colours etc.

Consultation time:

I don't usually meet up with my clients for consultations for the Tailored Collection; there shouldn't be any need to. Most people order online and we communicate via email. If you want a phone consultation, that's not a problem at all. But I work with brides and grooms from all over the country, so it's not always easy to meet up, hence why ordering from this collection is easier than going for something totally bespoke.

So, to give you an idea of how one of the designs from the Collection can be altered, please see the images below; all of these started with the White Snapdragon (first image) as the selected design from the outset...

As you can see, each invitation is bespoke to the couple- with some choosing to add a motif, some adding foil, the change of the colours etc. There are so many options, you just need to know how to explore them! Please get in touch if you'd like to have a chat about your invitations, I'm always here to help.

Autumnal Wedding Invitations 🍂

If you're getting married in the Autumn of this year (so from September onwards), I would suggest that you need to get thinking about your wedding invitations (if you haven't already). It's definitely not too late, but from experience, I would recommend sending them out 2-3 months before the Big Day itself. At the moment, I am working on lots of invitations for this time of the year as well as all the day stationery for couples getting married in the summer. It's all go!

When it comes to your wedding invites, it's important to reflect the vibe, tone & theme of your wedding. So if you're having it in the Autumnal months, think of the colours: burgundy's, golds, bronzes, burnt oranges, maroons, navy's, coppers and also reds. I'm not saying that your invites can't be a blush rose (if that's the theme running throughout your wedding) for instance and actually I would highly recommend them to be if this is the styling for your Big Day. I'm also not implying that you need to have the iconic red and orange leaves on your invites just because you're getting married in October. Have a look at some past invitations I have created for around this time of year to give you some inspiration...

And if you're looking for some more inspiration for the Big Day itself, I have sieved through a lot of images on Pinterest and got a collation of some of my favourite styling ideas here... Please do get in touch with your ideas for your wedding stationery, be it invitations or on the day stationery, I cannot wait to hear from you!

Business Stationery for Red Pig Coffee 🐽

Nothing says COFFEE like brown kraft cards... They just seem to go hand in hand with each other. Red Pig Coffee Roasters are a fabulous company based in the Cotswolds that supply rich, glorious coffee to well respected coffee joints all over the country. When they came to me for a little re-brand and help with both the designing and printing of some of their products, I could'nt wait to get my hands on it.
We agreed that foiling their stationery was the way forward. Giving everything a luxury feel to it but keeping it all very much 'earthy' and reflective of their products.
I have very much enjoyed working with the team behind Red Pig and looking forward to some more exciting things to come!
Please get in touch if you'd like help with your business stationery... there's a lot to be said for having creating the right tone with your stationery.
