Kew Garden Wedding Invitations 🌿💍

I recently had the pleasure of designing and creating some bespoke invitations for a couple getting married at the stunning Kew Gardens. My clients wanted their invitations to reflect the elegance, sophistication and wanders of this incredible venue. Their theme was blush pink, ivory and rose gold.

There were quite a few stages to this design process, all of which were very unique to the couple. As you will see in the pictures below, we created a monogram of their initials which was wax stamped in a rose gold, rich wax on luxury vellum belly bands. They decided to go for the pocketfold invitation; this is a classic style and is great for containing lots of information in a beautiful, succinct way. The couple were having their reception in the grand Orangery in Kew Gardens, so they wanted this to be a feature on the invitations. I hand drew this magnificent building in pencil, scanned it in at a high resolution, converted it into a plate for foiling and then hand printed it in the rose gold- as you will see at the top of the invitation. The couples names and all the titles are also printed in the rose gold foil. They were printed on a textured, ivory card which only enhances that elegant feel to them.

It’s so important to set the right tone with your wedding stationery, after all, it is the first
thing your guests will see. Please do get in touch if you want to create something unique
for your Big Day.

Rustic Elegant Wedding Inspiration 🌿

Rustic elegant is now a "thing" and it's definitely taking over the whole 'vintage, bunting, rustic' vibe. Think, lots of lights, candles, foliage, greenery, natural light and beautiful countryside; all make up for a beautiful, rustic yet elegant tone for your wedding.

For styling on the Big Day, there is so much inspiration on Pinterest and here are just a few from my board that I have pinned...

I have recently designed and created some bespoke Save the Date's for a couple who are getting married in their local church and having their reception at their parents country farm house in a stunning barn. Everything is so personal to them so it was important to set the right tone with their wedding stationery from the start. They wanted to allude to the countryside aesthetic without going down the brown kraft route. As you can see, I have hand painted the wheat in the background which is subtle yet still very visible. On top of this, I have gold foiled "Save the Date" with their details written below. We decided to go with these heritage green envelopes which also nods to the country styled wedding theme. It's this attention to detail that helps create the overall tone... I cannot wait to work on their wedding invitations now!

Please do get in touch if you'd like to create something unique for you and your wedding.

Aynhoe Park Wedding Invitations ✨

If you haven't been to Aynhoe Park, I would highly recommend visiting this amazing venue... Filled with the most incredible lavish taxidermy with giraffes hanging from the ceiling by balloons to polar bears being suited and booted in military gear- it's really very spectacular. And what a place to have your wedding day - it's just so different, unique and elegant.

So when I was approached by a couple who are getting married there to design their wedding invitations, I was naturally, very excited (as I am with any bespoke design) and wanted to create something to reflect the grandeur and opulence of this wonderland venue.

The tone of the wedding, for me, is always set with the venue choice. So I quickly had a good understanding of what the couple wanted and desired. And upon establishing their colour palette of navys, greys, taupes, blushes and golds, they gave me the complete freedom in designing their invitations to create something to emulate the stylish nature of Aynhoe Park.

The invitation was based around the first thing that I designed for them; their bespoke geometric monogram of the couple's initials. As you can see this heptagon runs throughout all the complimenting slips so everything has a consistency to it and it all ties together beautifully. Their main invitation is all hand printed in a matt gold foil on a heavy weight GF Smith card. And as you can see their monogram is a feature on the other slips, keeping that continuity and heightening that elegant feel; even their envelopes have been foiled, which makes such an impact when guests receive them through the post.

I had so so much fun designing, printing and creating these unique invitations and I just cannot wait to do the rest of their stationery!

Sea inspired Invitations 🌊

If you're planning to get married abroad or even on the beautiful British coastline, it would be a great starting point to reflect your venue choice in your wedding stationery. You should always set the tone of your Big Day with your invitations- after all, these are the very first impressions that your guests get of your wedding. The problem is, is that I've seen lots of 'nautical' and 'seaside' themed stationery and lots that I dislike! This is mainly because it's all too literal, too much of the same and can look quite tacky. Which is definitely not what you want and not what we do here at Retro! Whatever you want to have on your stationery, whether it's a starfish, an anchor or even a lobster, make sure it's done well, it's done elegantly and most importantly, it's unique to you and your Big Day.

I recently designed some bespoke invitations for an important birthday party which was taking place in a hotel on the sea in Portugal. The vibe was elegant, decadent but also fun! I wanted to reflect the sea scape with a watercolour wash which added texture and the right colour scheme to the invite. As you can see, I gold foiled "Jan's Birthday" and the 5 stars of the Hotel. This adds the sense of glamour which is heightened by the beautiful font used to create these invitations.

If you're looking for something different and bespoke to match your Wedding Day or indeed Birthday Party, please do get in touch to start discussing your ideas.

Vellum & Gold Foil Save the Dates 🌿

I'm very excited to share that I will soon be adding a new range of designs to the website: The Foiled Collection. You will be able to change the foil colour to anything that you wish and make them tailored to you and your wedding.
Hot foiling is an expensive process because everything is lovingly hand printed and of course, the materials needed, such as the foil and plates are not cheap. Thus, it's a luxury finish that elevates your stationery to the next level.
My aim with The Foiled Collection, is to make the process as easy as possible for you whilst making them affordable, elegant and luxurious.
Here is a sneak peak at one of the new designs and showcasing the Save the Dates... Gold foil printed on beautiful vellum, layered on top of textured card with the details digitally printed. There will be an option to have the gold leaf printed straight onto the card, if you'd prefer.
Make a statement with your stationery and really set that tone for the Big Day with foiled luxury additions 💕

Photoshoot at Upcote Barn 💍👰🏽

Last week, I had the pleasure of working on a wedding photoshoot at the beautiful venue of Upcote Barn with an amazing list of other local Cotswold suppliers (please find at the end of article). Luckily, we had beautiful weather and it was the perfect setting for what we wanted.
As you can see, the colour scheme that we all worked to was, burgundies, reds, whites and pops of yellows, greens and oranges. Because it was such a sunny, luscious day, this looks perfect for a summer wedding, but we were going for more of an Autumnal feel. All images are courtesy of the incredible Ben from Blooming Photography....

And here is the stationery that I designed specifically for the day... which will soon be available on the website as part of a new customisable range of luxe designs : The Foil Collection. The gold leaf illustration is the focal point of this design, reflective of foliage, elegance and decadence...

Rustic Day Stationery from the Tailored Collection

I often get asked if there is Day stationery to accompany the the Tailored Collection designs... And the answer is yes! So that includes everything from the Order of Services, the Table Plan, the Place Name cards, Table Cards, Signage, Menus and anything else you can think of. I feel like it's sometimes hard to envision your invitation design translated into these stationery items so I thought I'd dedicate a post to it, focusing on just one of the designs from the Collection; The Blue Thistle invitation.

The invitation design was inspired by the wonderful rustic wedding theme. But I wanted to create something that was rather elegant and something a bit different to the normal idea of "rustic". Printed on beautiful brown kraft card, this design is quite simple yet bold, luxurious and sets the tone for a barn type wedding. There is the option to have it printed on a white card or even a different coloured background, which changes the tone completely.... It's amazing how much the paper stock makes a difference the overall style and vibe. Have a look at the Invitation and Save the Date suite below....

And now for the Day Stationery items... These are from a couple that recently got married at the stunning Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury. As you can see, they decided to go for Order of Service booklets, name place cards, table cards and they also had a table plan too (waiting for photos of this).... Everything is in keeping with each other which makes such a big impression on the Big Day itself. It's that attention to detail that leaves your guests WOWED!

Please do get in touch for more information, samples or even just a chat!

Art Deco Inspired Wedding

Art Deco as a theme for your wedding day is one that will never date... Everything about it is classy, stylish and there are so many ways that you can make it unique to you. I personally love all the dark, moody, rich colours that are associated with the Art Deco period, along with the structured, geometric shapes, patterns and beautiful textures. There are a lot of decadent features, lavish golds and it just screams luxury, elegance and extravagance!

Here are just a few inspirational images I have pinned on my Art Deco Pinterest board to get you thinking...

And here is a very recent Bespoke Save the Date card that I have designed and printed for a couple. The background is a marble wash of navy blue, with certain shapes darker than others, which really helps to create depth and texture. All the gold you see in these have been foiled to give that added WOW factor. The gold foil is amazing when it catches certain lights and it's a definitely a luxury finish that your guests are going to be impressed with. This design is totally unique to Derynn & George and I am just so so excited to create their invitations.

Bespoke Wedding Invitation Design for Lapstone Barn 🌿

I am absolutely elated to be now affiliated with the beautiful Cotswold wedding venue, Lapstone Barn. Situated close to Broadway and other neighbouring villages such as Chipping Campden, it's the perfect location for a perfect countryside wedding.

Upon visiting Lapstone, I had a clear vision of what kind of wedding invitation I was going to design for them... I was blown away by the vast, luscious green views that surrounded the barn and I wanted to capture this within the invitation. The other striking thing that hit me about this venue was that it had an air of elegance and sophistication to it, more like a stately home rather than a rustic barn type feel. Again, I wanted to reflect this in the design.

Here's a little bit of 'behind the scenes' / process shots for you...

So as you can see, I have used a few different processes to create these; the first being the hand painted watercolour element. I wanted to capture the landscape with this watercolour wash and also make it personalised to the barn by recreating their motif. The second is hot foiling; I wanted to add a bit of 'sparkle' to the invites and I wanted to illustrate the beautiful fairy lights that run down their function room. The foiled element of the invitations can be in any colour, as can the watercolour wash- it's important to reflect YOUR Big Day, so I do always suggest having the splashes of your chosen colour scheme within your invitations.

Here is the final bespoke design I came up for the Barn... If you like what you see, please do get in touch to discuss your options. I would also highly recommend giving Lapstone a visit if you haven't already- you'll fall in love with the place as much as I did!

Customisable Wedding Invitations; The Tailored Collection 💕

The Tailored Collection is a varying suite of invitations that I have designed in order to make life easy for you whilst at the same time, still being unique to you. At the moment, there are 5 very different designs, thus hopefully there is at least one that catches your eye.

I get asked lots of questions about The Tailored Collection, so I thought I would try and answer the most frequent ones in this blog post!

Think of these invitations as starting points. The colours, wording and paper stocks used are all changeable and this is how you make the design bespoke to you. This is a service in which I provide that is complimentary when ordering from this collection... If however, you wanted to add an element in, like a motif, a building, an illustration, etc, extra design charges are applicable (and it just depends upon what you want adding).

Other embellishments that you might want to add into your design / final invitations:

- Twine & tags
- Matching belly bands
- Foiling
- Matching envelope liners
- Bespoke stickers
- Bespoke Wax stamp
- Printed personalised names on your invitations

How to place an order:

This is dead easy but it's not computerised (which would take away from the personal service that I pride myself on). All you have to do is fill out a form on the Contact page and I will get back to you within 24 working hours. Once we have had a discussion about your invitations and you have sent me the wording that you require, I will create a digital proof and send it back to you for your approval. Once you are totally happy, payment is made and production begins.

The usual timescale:

If you're ordering in good time (not in a rush), I would say it takes about 2-3 weeks to turn your invitations around... If however, (which seems to happen a lot), you are ordering last minute, the quickest turn around time is 1 week (7 working days).

Matching On the Day Stationery:

Lots of couples want their day stationery to match their invitations... Personally, I think it's a nice touch and something that your guests will notice and appreciate. You've set the tone with your invitations so it makes sense to carry it through to on the Big Day too. All of the Tailored Collection designs come with matching day stationery items, but as these bits seem to leave my studio straight away so I don't have much in terms of samples, but I do have a few images so fear not! The stationery items for on the wedding day is endless and I do it all:

- Orders of Service booklets/ cards
- Place Names
- Table Plan
- Table Name/ Number cards
- Welcome sign / signage
- Labels for favours
- Menus for the tables

Sample Service:

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to see any invitation samples- I send these out free of charge... And I do think it's always worth doing so if you've got the time- just so you can see the paper stock, quality, colours etc.

Consultation time:

I don't usually meet up with my clients for consultations for the Tailored Collection; there shouldn't be any need to. Most people order online and we communicate via email. If you want a phone consultation, that's not a problem at all. But I work with brides and grooms from all over the country, so it's not always easy to meet up, hence why ordering from this collection is easier than going for something totally bespoke.

So, to give you an idea of how one of the designs from the Collection can be altered, please see the images below; all of these started with the White Snapdragon (first image) as the selected design from the outset...

As you can see, each invitation is bespoke to the couple- with some choosing to add a motif, some adding foil, the change of the colours etc. There are so many options, you just need to know how to explore them! Please get in touch if you'd like to have a chat about your invitations, I'm always here to help.

Autumnal Wedding Invitations 🍂

If you're getting married in the Autumn of this year (so from September onwards), I would suggest that you need to get thinking about your wedding invitations (if you haven't already). It's definitely not too late, but from experience, I would recommend sending them out 2-3 months before the Big Day itself. At the moment, I am working on lots of invitations for this time of the year as well as all the day stationery for couples getting married in the summer. It's all go!

When it comes to your wedding invites, it's important to reflect the vibe, tone & theme of your wedding. So if you're having it in the Autumnal months, think of the colours: burgundy's, golds, bronzes, burnt oranges, maroons, navy's, coppers and also reds. I'm not saying that your invites can't be a blush rose (if that's the theme running throughout your wedding) for instance and actually I would highly recommend them to be if this is the styling for your Big Day. I'm also not implying that you need to have the iconic red and orange leaves on your invites just because you're getting married in October. Have a look at some past invitations I have created for around this time of year to give you some inspiration...

And if you're looking for some more inspiration for the Big Day itself, I have sieved through a lot of images on Pinterest and got a collation of some of my favourite styling ideas here... Please do get in touch with your ideas for your wedding stationery, be it invitations or on the day stationery, I cannot wait to hear from you!

Real Wedding at Cripps Barn 🌿💍

There's nothing better than receiving the official photographs from a wedding that you've been so involved in... I was very excited about these ones in particular as I had worked closely with the couple from the start (on their invitations) and then I went onto create their unique stationery for the Big Day itself. I just LOVE seeing how everything comes together- it's like a jigsaw puzzle and the stationery being one of the many pieces that helps make this day so special.
Lisa & Ben came to me about a year ago with their styling ideas and dreams of what they envisioned their wedding to be like... They had already secured their date & venue; the beautiful Cripps Barn, located in the heart of the Cotswolds... So luxe rustic was the vibe; think, foliage, lots of greenery, brown kraft, ("strictly no bunting"), whites, creams and just stylish all over! I couldn't wait to get started! Oh and, they also have a miniature dachshund in which they wanted to feature on the invitations... so here they are to show you where we started our journey...

And now for the pics you've been waiting for... Photographed by the talented Adam Drake...

How amazing?! Everything looks just perfect and I am so happy to have been a part of it all. Now, here are some photo's of the wedding stationery that I created for this wonderful couple. I designed everything in keeping with their invitations, so everything is on brown kraft card and everything has the same feel and look as the invites did. The Table Plan and Order of the Day sign are both laser engraved on wood, so just enhancing the rustic tones of the day, but in an elegant, beautiful way.

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to you, Lisa & Ben, it's been an absolute please working with you both and thanks for sharing your amazing wedding pics with us!! Please see who else helped make this day special with the list of suppliers below:

Lapstone Barn Wedding Venue 💒

So I went to visit the beautiful new wedding venue that is Lapstone Barn last week. Based in Chipping Campden, surrounded by just the most idyllic, luscious green countryside; it makes for the most perfect Cotswold Wedding venue around.

The drive up to it, in itself, was super impressive and instantly, upon arrival, I fell in love with the place straight away. It's got a very cosy, warming vibe to it, with a very cute reception area before entering the most amazing space in which the ceremonies take place. They can take up to 200 seated guests, for the ceremony and for the evening- a much larger capacity than most other barn venues. The thing that struck me the most about this barn in particular, was the light; it was exceptionally light throughout, which again, is quite unusual for this type of venue. I especially loved the old milking parlour that is now the dining/ evening space- the industrial yet country feel to it makes it so unique, vast and different. It even has it's own very cool bar area, with comfy armchairs and a log inspired fireplace - a perfect place to let your party feet have a rest! There's a fantastic courtyard in the middle of the barn, in which they can hold outside ceremonies... Amazing!!

If you haven't yet been to Lapstone to have a visit, you need to get up there! The team that run it are great, so very helpful and welcoming. I understand that dates are filling up fast, so you need to be quick! I'm very much looking forward to working with this venue in the near future and  have got some exciting things coming up... watch this space! If you have already booked and you are planning your wedding, please do get in touch about your stationery- let's make it all as dreamy as the venue 💕 Check out the website: www.lapstonebarn.co.uk

Brown Kraft Wedding Stationery 🏷💕

The Brown Kraft Travel Tag is definitely one of my favourite styles of invitations. It's different, unique and enhances the rustic feel to your wedding. The design is unrestricted in the sense that you can go for something very modern (as in this post) or very traditional; the options are endless.

This blog post features the bespoke invitations for a couple who recently tied the knot along with their other on the day stationery items; their Place Names and Orders of Services. I also created their Table Plan and Table Numbers to match.

Lyn & Tim were had their reception at Prescott Speed Hill Climb, so they wanted all of their stationery to be themed around the iconic old racing cars. As you can see, everything is in keeping and all looked wonderful! It's in the little touches of detail that make all the difference.

Don't hesitate to get in touch with your ideas for your invitations, I'm always excited to take on new challenges and new designs!

Wedding Fair at The Barn at Upcote 💕

Taking part in The Upcote Wedding Fair is definitely a highlight of mine! The team that run the show and venue, Hannah, Jo & Andrew are just wonderful. They put on such a great event for all involved; suppliers and guests alike; there's so much to see, so many friendly faces and just a great atmosphere all round. I absolutely love it!
It's a great opportunity, not only to showcase my work, but its also a chance to meet lots of excited newly engaged couples. I think it's important when providing such a personal service to try and meet my clients face to face- this isn't always possible, but I like to do so when I can.
If you haven't yet chosen your venue and you're looking to get married in the beautiful Cotswolds, in an idyllic setting, in a barn type venue, then look no further. Go and see Hannah and the team for a look around and I'm sure you'll fall in love with Upcote just as much as I did upon my first viewing.
Have a look at a few pics below, including Wedding Cakes from the wonderful Claire at Cake Daydreams along with Wedding Flowers from the marvellous Jo from Aqua Flowers.
Thanks for having us, already looking forward to the Autumn fair! xx

Real Wedding at Cripps Barn 🌿

One of my favourite things to blog about; a Real Wedding, with pictures from the Big Day itself. To see it all come together and the stationery in situ really makes me very happy! This one is a recent one from the beautiful venue of Cripps Barn.
I had worked with the couple from the start with their wedding invitations- in which they went for a Tailored Collection Design and just altered the colours and wording to suit their preferences. Please see below an image of the White Snapdragon design from the collection and then a picture of their adapted invitations.

The couple's theme, as you can see, was very much greens, golds and whites, which was not only in keeping with the venue but also with all of their flowers etc on the Wedding Day. After the invitations were sent out, we set out to work on the rest of the stationery. Retro Press designed and produced their Name Place Cards, Table Name Cards (which were all named after famous race horses- love it- see in pic below!) and Order of Service booklets. It was an absolute pleasure working with this lovely couple and a huge Congratulations to you both on your recent marriage!

Ultra Violet Wedding Inspiration 🔮💜

wedding stationery inspiration

ULTRA VIOLET

Ulta Violet Pantone 18-3838 is the colour of 2018! A perfect wedding colour; rich, deep and elegant. The lighter tones of this colour will work well for the spring / summer- think lavender, freshness and brightness. Whilst the darker tones will contrast and compliment with green foliage, whites and creams. Have a look at some inspiration taken from Pinterest...

I feel like you can go one of two ways with this colour; it can have quite a Boho feel to it or on the opposite end of the scale, it can feel traditional and quite classic- it just depends on what style you want for your Big Day. I have done quite a few Wedding Suites with this colour being the theme, please see a selection below, from invitations through to day stationery...

Real Wedding at Elmore Court

For me, one the many highlights of designing and producing wedding stationery is getting to see the photographs from the couple's Big Day itself. It sends goose pimples down my spine to know that Retro Press has been apart of their special day and helped bring everything together- all their dreams, visions, months of planning and organising is brought to life. I usually start the journey with the Bride & Groom- from their Save the Dates or Invitations right through to their day stationery and then their thank you cards. So as you can imagine, relationships are formed and by the end I normally feel like I know my couple and getting to see the pics really makes my day! I also do a lot of 'on the day stationery' for couples who haven't had their invitations done at Retro Press.

This particular feature is on a recent Wedding at Elmore Court in which Retro Press designed and produced all the stationery from start to finish. The colour scheme of the wedding was greys, silvers, natural creams and greens (foliage) with a glamorous, elegant feel to the whole day. The bride's invitations were silver foiled on thick grey card. They set a stylish, classic tone for the Big Day itself.

silver foiled wedding invitations

The stationery for on the day, including personalised Menu cards, Order of Ceremony cards, the Table Plan and Table Names all carried on the same theme as the invitations. We stuck to the same shades of colour, fonts and overall feel. The table plan was finished on an A1 perspex sheet with the table names to match (also in the perspex). This was lit up by tea lights and finished off with some greenery... It looked divine. A huge thank you to Robert Leons for these beautiful images (below) and a massive congratulations to Jo & Ben on their marriage.

Christmas Wedding Stationery Shoot with Aqua Florist 💐

christmas wedding stationery

So with the Christmas countdown being very much ON, it was a fantastic opportunity to work with Jo from Aqua Florist on a little festive inspired photo shoot. Jo has been busy busy busy with weddings all year round but at Christmas she finds the time to make these beautiful wreaths, which are filled with bows, ribbons, dried fruits, pine cones and they are just exquisite. I went to visit her at the Aqua Flowers HQ along with my little helper Lewi (the sausage dog- who actually didn't help at all!!) and had a full on day of fun, Christmas and photos!

With Christmas Weddings getting more and more popular, it's a crazy time here at Retro Press- what with doing bespoke Christmas card orders to Wedding Stationery and I just love it! When you think of Christmas inspired wedding stationery, think deep, warm, dark colours with touches of metallic tones running through them. Colour combinations that work very well together: Emerald Greens & Golds, Dark Greys & Silvers, Deep Reds & Golds, Navy & Rose Golds and actually the Brown Kraft paper is very indicative of this Christmassy feel.

Enjoy the photos and please do get in touch, I'd love to hear from you!
